Vocabulary


Weathering: The process that destroys or breaks the rocks and other substances on Earth's surface.
Erosion: The movement of the particles of rock by wind, water, ice, or gravity is called erosion.
Mechanical Weathering: The weather in which rock physically breaks into small pieces is called mechanical weathering.
Abrasion: The grinding away of rocks by water, wind, ice, or gravity is called abrasion.
Ice Wedging: The process in which wedges of rock widen and deepen in cracks is called ice wedging.
Chemical Weathering: The process in which rocks break down because of chemical changes.
Permeable: Permeable means that a material is filled with tiny, connected holes where water can seep through.
